Here's a map I made of trailheads and campsites in Marin and the public transit lines that will get you there

Click the button in the top left corner to expand the legend. You can turn layers on and off. If you click on any of the map points I've included some extra info.

Here are some hike ideas to get started. These are relatively straightforward from a transit perspective - most are only one transfer if you're coming from Oakland or SF. Transit directions can be found in the description on AllTrails!

Transit Hike to Kirby Cove

Length: 4 miles
Elevation: 462'

Here's a 4-mile hike down to Kirby Cove. You'll get to see panoramic views of the Golden Gate bridge, the Bay, and the ocean, before climbing down to a secluded beach. There are cool old military ruins to check out as well.

Transit Hike to Rodeo Beach

Length: 7.9 miles
Elevation: 975'

This hike is a bit longer - good for an all-day adventure. It starts out with a hike up the ridge, which will reward you with a nice view of Everything. Then you'll meander down into Rodeo Valley, and past Rodeo Lagoon, before finally making it to Rodeo Beach. Pack a picnic lunch and rest your feet for a while at the beach before looping back to the start.

Transit Hike to Muir Woods

Length: 4.7 miles
Elevation: 1022'

This one is fun because you get to experience Muir Woods without the parking reservation nightmare. You will start up on the ridge and then descend through the canopy of the redwoods, which offers a unique view that you don't get from down below. Then you'll arrive at the back end of the famous Muir Woods boardwalk path.
